This is BS advice and I am calling it out! As an online service provider, you will be inundated by advice on how to show up, marketing your business convert clients etc. But putting all of your focus on marketing while neglecting other essential aspects of your business is going to end in disaster. Sure at the beginning you have NO clients, so you can spend AT LEAST 50% of your time on marketing, but when you have clients that simply not sustainable. No wonder you don't have time to work on your business development. Here's my take: Marketing is one piece of the puzzle but without strong foundations and systems to run your business, then all the marketing in the world won't save you from burnout, frustration and overwhelm. What happens when your marketing pays off and you get a full book of clients- how do you COPE? If you're constantly chasing new leads but struggling to retain your existing clients, you'll be stuck in a cycle of always trying to fill your pipeline. In turn, you won't have the time or energy to deliver exceptional work and build lasting relationships with your clients, and they won't lead to referrals because you haven't delivered. And so it continues on the marketing treadmill. With a solid foundation, you can create a business that runs itself. You'll be able to attract your dream clients through referrals and word-of-mouth without having to spend all your time on marketing. Imagine having clients who shout about how great you are in a room full of opportunities. This is what happens when you deliver great results that come from implementing strong systems, processes and client boundaries. Back in 2019, I made the decision to quit my toxic job in the UK for the sake of a healthy pregnancy. Fast forward through lockdown, shielding, and everyone working from home, I started researching options for working for myself. Now, four years later, after moves to France and Spain, I find myself saying to my husband every day, "I cannot believe we get to live here!"
